A BEAUTIFUL early 1900s, 1929, blue and white Mrs. Herbert Hoover quilt, with provenance and history!  This is pattern is actually a double Irish chain.  This layout of the double Irish chain came to be known as the Mrs. Herbert Hoover pattern.  The original double Irish chain quilt, precursor to the Mrs. Herbert Hoover quilt, was made in 1854 by a pair of sisters in Massachusetts.  The quilt later was provided for an exposition for which mrs' Herbert Hoover served on the board.  When she saw the quilt, she commissioned a duplicate to be made for her son as a wedding gift (in 1925.)

This quilt was made by Mrs. Olga Smith Taylor, mother of Sylvia C Taylor in 1929.  This quilt comes the an Article that appeared in a 1926 edition of Needlecraft that provides the history of this pattern.  The article was with the quilt when I purchased it in Ohio years ago.  

Construction:  expertly hand pieced and hand quilted. 

Measures 80" by 92".  

Very crisp and clean. In excellent condition. Laundered at some point, but no signs of use.
