This is a porcelain ashtray by Hermès.
It features the design known as ‘Chasse en Inde’ (Hunting in India), with a figure at the centre surrounded by animals such as tigers, horses, deer and birds, accompanied by flowers and foliage. All of these elements are rendered with exceptional precision.
Set against a vivid red background and adorned with sumptuous gold decoration, this piece exudes the overwhelming presence characteristic of Hermès.

This is a pre-owned vintage item.
There is a large chip or tear in one corner, with repair marks using gold-coloured material.
We have included close-up photographs of the repaired area, so please be sure to check the condition carefully.
Furthermore, the gold leaf shows signs of wear, and there are fine scratches and marks resulting from age, use and storage.
The suede on the base also shows signs of ageing, such as stains and scuffing.
This item is being offered ‘as is’, with all damage and repairs visible; it is intended for those who understand the nature of vintage items and are purchasing it for collection or display purposes.
As well as functioning perfectly well as an ashtray, this is a striking piece that can also be used as an accessory tray, a small storage container or an interior decoration.

The specifications of Hermès ashtrays have changed over time, resulting in various variations.
On older models,
the ceramic section is stamped with
‘HERMÈS-PARIS’
‘Made in France’
on the ceramic section, whilst the suede base bears
‘HHH’
—a combination found on actual products. For example, the ‘Tigre Royal’ features gold ‘HHH’ lettering embossed on a beige suede base, with ‘HERMÈS-PARIS / Made in France’ inscribed on the side of the ceramic section.
On the other hand, it is officially stated that on relatively newer Hermès products, the words ‘Hermès Paris’ are hot-stamped directly onto the velvet-finished goatskin base.
