Offered here is a brand-new 5" x 25" theater-style mylar featuring the classic artwork from Don Coscarelli's 1979 horror favorite Phantasm.

Written and directed by Coscarelli, Phantasm stars Michael Baldwin, Bill Thornbury, Kathy Lester, Reggie Bannister and Angus Scrimm as the Tall Man. The story follows a teenage boy who grows suspicious of a local funeral home after the death of his brother. His curiosity soon leads him to the Tall Man and a bizarre secret involving the dead, another world and those unforgettable flying silver spheres.

Made independently on a modest budget, Phantasm didn't look or feel like the typical horror movie of its day. Coscarelli mixed horror and science fiction with surreal imagery, strange humor and an almost dreamlike atmosphere. Angus Scrimm's Tall Man became one of the genre's most memorable villains, and the deadly silver spheres gave the movie an image that horror fans still instantly recognize. What began as an unusual independent film in 1979 eventually grew into a five-film franchise with a devoted following.

The artwork on this mylar captures that wonderfully strange Phantasm look. The Tall Man appears inside the enormous silver sphere, joined by the screaming woman, coffin and other imagery from the film's original advertising. The familiar PHANTASM logo stretches across the design, along with the classic tagline "If this one doesn't scare you... You're Already Dead!"

There's a reason these mylars have such an unusual shape. The 5" x 25" format was made for the illuminated signs found above individual movie theater auditorium entrances. The mylar identified which movie was playing on that particular screen, and the long horizontal dimensions were designed specifically to fit those signs. It's a piece of movie theater advertising that isn't seen nearly as often today, and the format works especially well in a movie room or home theater.

This mylar is printed on flexible backlit film. It can be displayed normally, but placing it in a lightbox gives it the illuminated appearance these pieces were designed for.

The listing photos show this Phantasm mylar both illuminated in a lightbox and by itself under normal lighting, giving you a good look at its appearance both ways. I've also included a reference photo of a mylar installed above an actual movie theater auditorium entrance so you can see how these 5" x 25" pieces were traditionally used. The theater reference photo is for display purposes only and does not show the mylar being sold.
