This is a truly beautiful and distinctive Barneys New York suede and leather travel bag with the kind of understated luxury and craftsmanship that made Barneys famous.

The first thing that stands out is the gorgeous camel/tobacco-colored suede. It has developed wonderful variations in tone and nap over time, giving the bag a rich, almost vintage safari / old-world travel character. Depending on the light and direction of the suede, the color moves from warm tan to deeper brown—something the photographs capture beautifully.

The suede is contrasted by substantial dark chestnut-brown leather throughout the bag, including the rolled leather handles, handle mounts, piping, zipper pulls, luggage tag and exceptionally substantial full leather bottom. The warm contrast between the suede and leather is what makes this bag particularly striking.

This is not a lightweight or generic duffel. It has a wonderfully structured, substantial feel while retaining the relaxed softness of a well-made suede travel bag. The large main compartment is complemented by zippered compartments on both ends, while five metal feet protect the impressive leather base.

CONDITION

Pre-owned and beautifully aged. The suede displays natural variations in color, nap and shading along with signs of use that contribute to its character. The leather bottom has surface scratches and scuffs, and the leather handles and trim show normal age-related wear. Please examine the photographs closely—they provide an excellent representation of the bag’s condition and are part of the description.

What makes this bag particularly appealing is that it doesn’t look new—and it shouldn’t. The softened suede, warm patina of the leather and classic proportions give it a sophisticated, well-traveled appearance that would be difficult to reproduce in a new bag.
