Japanese Mice Treasure Bag Netsuke 1.49inch Ojime Accessory Signed Yoshitoshi MB716
This is a charming Japanese netsuke-style carving from the Showa period, featuring a lively group of mice gathered closely around a traditional treasure bag motif.
The composition is compact and densely arranged, with several mice overlapping one another to create a playful sense of movement. Each mouse is individually carved with rounded ears, small paws, pointed snouts, and dark inset-style eyes that give the figures a vivid expression. Fine incised lines across the bodies suggest the texture of fur, while the polished brown-toned surface highlights the carved details.
The central theme combines the mouse, or nezumi, with a takarabukuro-style treasure bag. In Japanese decorative culture, mice are often associated with fertility, prosperity, resourcefulness, and abundance, while the treasure bag is traditionally linked with good fortune and accumulated wealth. Their combination makes this a particularly auspicious subject for a small personal ornament or collectible.
The piece is made of resin and was produced as a netsuke or sagemono-style miniature carving. Its rounded form allows the mice to be viewed from multiple angles, revealing different facial expressions and small sculptural details depending on the direction of display.
A signature reading “Yoshitoshi” (吉利) is present on the piece.
This is a decorative and characterful example of Showa-period Japanese miniature carving, suitable for collectors of netsuke, sagemono, Japanese animal motifs, or small sculptural works.
