The Nikkormat FTN (called Nikomat FTN in Japan) is one of Nikon's most respected mechanical 35mm SLR cameras. It was produced from 1967 to 1975 and was designed as a more affordable alternative to the professional Nikon F while still using the same Nikon F-mount lenses.
35mm manual-focus SLR
Fully mechanical shutter (works without a battery)
Shutter speeds: 1 second to 1/1000 sec + Bulb
TTL center-weighted metering (one of the first Nikon cameras to use it)
Nikon F-mount lens compatibility
Match-needle exposure system
Metal vertical-travel focal-plane shutter
The FTN introduced Nikon's now-famous center-weighted meter, concentrating about 60% of the reading in the center of the frame. This system became a Nikon hallmark for decades.
Many photographers consider the FTN one of the best values in vintage Nikon cameras because it offers:
Nikon F lens compatibility
Exceptional durability
Simple mechanical operation
