Antique Framed Lithographic Print of W.E. Gladstone by Sir William Nicholson (c.1899)
This is a beautiful antique framed lithographic print featuring the iconic four-time British Prime Minister, William Ewart Gladstone. This striking portrait was originally designed as a woodcut by the celebrated English artist Sir William Nicholson in 1897 and published by William Heinemann (London) in his legendary Twelve Portraits portfolio series at the turn of the century.
The artwork showcases Nicholson's masterfully minimalist style, utilizing bold, heavy black ink block outlines paired with subtle, muted cream and ochre tones to capture a powerful, historic likeness of the late Victorian statesman.
Dimensions:
Total Frame Size: 52.5 cm x 42 cm
Visible Artwork Size: 26 cm x 24 cm
The print is beautifully housed in a crisp modern white frame with a wide, archival-quality protective mount, perfectly matching the Chamberlain and Bismarck pieces from the same collection. The ink remains remarkably deep and crisp with strong graphic definition.
