This pin cushion was made sometime during the Art deco period. During the 1920s and 1930s, stylized novelty items like this were highly popular. Often referred to as "boudoir" or "bed doll" accessories, they were intended as charming decorative novelties for a woman's dressing table rather than as utilitarian sewing tools or children's toys.
The Face: Crafted from a tan felt base, it features a finely hand-drawn face with large, stylized, side-glancing eyes made using thread. The facial layout includes thinly arched asymmetric eyebrows, stylized cheek curls (representing spit-curls or a classic 1920s bobbed hairstyle), and a classic dramatic Art Deco lip outline.
The Hood: The face is framed by a pointed, bright red wool felt hood that buttons or closes snugly at the chin line, referencing the classic fairytale character.
