The drum heads are constructed from natural animal skin, secured to the wooden shell with distinctive red-painted metal tacks. The wooden frame retains remnants of an off-white hand-painted finish and includes a fixed metal mounting bracket or handle on the side. This style of drum is commonly associated with traditional opera and village folk music ensembles.
