Vintage tall long necked dog figurine, Japan, c.1950s-1960s. A comically elongated seated dog in white glazed ceramic with blue and white decoration, in the style of the tall poodle and cat figurines popular in the mid century, though the floppy ears and tail make this one a spaniel type. Painted closed eyes with long black lashes, a cobalt blue bow at the neck, and blue floral sprays to the body. The florals appear to be stamped outlines finished with a hand painted wash, with the bow, ears and facial details hand painted.
The base carries a blue backstamp of a flower within a wreath above the word Japan. This style of mark was a generic export mark used by many Japanese makers and exporters in the 1950s and 1960s, so the specific maker cannot be identified.
Approx. 30 cm high x 9 cm wide x 6 cm deep.
Condition: Fairly good vintage condition. A few tiny flaws to note: an abraded edge to the lower tail of the bow, where years of contact have worn the edge rather than an impact chip; a tiny fleabite chip to the left eyelid; and light general surface scratches. The nose appears chipped in photos but this is just how it was painted. No cracks. Please see the photos for more detail.
Please note - I have a three business day turnaround between payment and postage in my T&Cs. I'd like to be faster, but I have little kids who sometimes don't allow it! Please contact me if you need it sent sooner though, and I'll try my best!
Please check my other listings for more collectables. Always happy to combine postage!
