Vintage hand blown art glass vase in the handkerchief style, with a ruffled freeform rim. Deep purple ground with multicoloured swirled canes in blue, white, orange, red, yellow and green running from the base up through the body. Bulbous lower body rising to a flared handkerchief top, on a clear glass foot.

The handkerchief or fazzoletto form was popularised by Venini on Murano in the late 1940s and was widely produced by other glasshouses through the following decades. This piece is unmarked, so no attribution is made, but it is clearly handmade. The base has a defined rough pontil mark where the piece was broken off the punty rod, typical of earlier handmade glass before polished pontils became standard.

Approx. 19 cm high x 9.5 cm wide x 10 cm deep.

Condition: No chips or cracks to the body or rim. A couple of light surface scratches. There are some small chips around the pontil mark on the base, which appear to date from manufacture when the vase was separated from the punty rod, rather than later damage.
