Vintage figurine of Napoleon Bonaparte on horseback, hand painted bisque porcelain, likely mid 20th century. Napoleon is shown in his characteristic bicorne hat and grey-green coat astride a rearing white horse, with a green and gilt saddle cloth and a cannon at the horse's feet. The name "Napoleon" is printed on the front of the base.
The pose is modelled on Jacques-Louis David's famous painting "Napoleon Crossing the Alps". Equestrian figures of Napoleon in this style were first produced by German porcelain factories in the 19th century and the design was widely copied through the 20th century. This example is slip cast bisque with hand painted decoration and gilt trim. There are no maker's marks or country of origin markings on the base.
Approx. 17 cm high x 12.3 cm wide x 6 cm deep.
Condition: Good vintage condition. No chips or cracks. Light use wear as expected for age, including some rubbing to the gilt banding around the base edges. Nicely detailed hand painted face. Please see the photos for more detail.
Please note - I have a three business day turnaround between payment and postage in my T&Cs. I'd like to be faster, but I have little kids who sometimes don't allow it! Please contact me if you need it sent sooner though, and I'll try my best!
