Genuine Silver Tetradrachm minted around the years of 350-294 BC, coming in slightly overweight at 17.207 grams of Silver, and boasting what looks to be an ancient countermark or ancient test mark, this coin is definitely a lovely and circulated historical artefact with some character! Was this coin countermarked by an official authority? Was it marked to test whether it was silver at some depth by a local tradesman? Why not let your imagination wander?

Although this coin is older than Jesus Christ himself, it still boasts amazing detail on the reverse, especially compared to it's higly-priced brothers available elsewhere. The owl in Greek tradition is linked to wisdom, knowledge and learning because it can see in the dark - symbolising understanding. This was a great pairing for this coin, due to what Athena represents.

The obverse of the coin features the helmeted head of Athena, the ancient Greek Goddess associated with protection, wisdom, and creative crafts. In this version, Athena faces right, and this is one of the first documented issues of the Athena Tetradrachm coin featuring the forward-facing (profile-style) eye. Whereas older examples showed the unnatural-looking almond-shaped "frontal eye". Curiously, Athena is 'reborn' as Minerva in Roman mythology.

On the reverse, the classic owl. It sits right, with head facing, with AOE to the right (meaning "of the Athenians"). It boasts a detailed and clearly visible olive spay and crescent moon above the countermark.

The entire symbology of this coin points to representing the city of Athens, Greece.
