Antique Saint Roch (St. Rocco) Chalkware Statue with Dog – Catholic Devotional Figure

Beautiful antique chalkware statue depicting Saint Roch, the patron saint invoked for protection against plagues and illness. Saint Roch is shown in traditional form revealing the plague wound on his leg, with the faithful dog at his feet, referencing the legend of the dog who brought him bread while he was sick.

This statue has wonderful old-world folk art character with hand-painted details and a classic devotional presence.

Features include:

Saint Roch with pilgrim hat and staff

Dog companion at his feet

Painted plague wound detail

Sculpted brick column backdrop

Hand-painted facial features

Heavy plaster chalkware construction

The statue appears to date from approximately 1920s–1930s European devotional production, likely Italian or French. These were commonly sold through church supply catalogs for home altars and devotional spaces.

Condition: Good antique condition with expected wear for age. There are small paint chips and surface wear typical of vintage chalkware statues. The statue remains solid and displays beautifully.

A purple devotional cloth cape was found with the statue and will be included. It may have been added by a previous owner for devotional display.

Measurements: Approximately 12 inches tall (see ruler in photos).

This is a wonderful piece of Catholic folk devotional art and would display beautifully in a home altar, religious collection, or antique décor settin
