Lockheed AH-56A Cheyenne No.1 66-8826 first flight 21 Sept  1967

The Lockheed AH-56 Cheyenne was a revolutionary, highly advanced compound attack helicopter developed for the U.S. Army in the late 1960s under the Advanced Aerial Fire Support System (AAFSS) program. Designed as the military's first dedicated gunship to escort transport helicopters, it combined vertical takeoff capabilities with the high-speed forward flight of a fixed-wing aircraft. Despite its groundbreaking technology and blistering speeds, the program was plagued by technical setbacks and political turf wars, leading to its cancellation in 1972 before entering active service.
