Antique 19th‑Century Gothic Mantel Clock with Later Ingraham Movement
This is a handsome late‑19th‑century American mantel clock featuring a Gothic arched case with dual finials and a decorative lower glass tablet depicting a sailing ship. The case design is consistent with Connecticut makers of the mid‑to‑late 1800s, including Barnes Brothers and other Bristol/Forestville manufacturers known for similar silhouettes and etched tablets. The walnut‑veneered case shows warm, even coloration with age‑appropriate wear, small marks, and finish irregularities typical of an unrestored antique. The arched top and finials remain structurally sound, and the door frame presents cleanly without evidence of modern refinishing.
The clock currently houses a later E. Ingraham Co. brass movement, clearly stamped E. Ingraham Co., Forestville, Conn., U.S.A. This movement is not original to the case but runs and operates as shown in the included video. The dial and dial pan appear to be later replacements sized to fit the door opening.
Please note: this clock is sold as‑is, with no guarantees or returns, due to its age and the mixed‑component nature of the piece. It is a visually appealing example of 19th‑century American clock case design, suitable for collectors who appreciate period craftsmanship, decorative tablets, and functional display pieces.
