RUSSIAN IMPERIAL SAMOVAR -- RARE ANTIQUE -- HAND CRAFTED BRASS --
Late 19th Century to early 20th Century
THIS SAMOVAR HAS ALL ITS PARTS -- I SAW IT WORK LAST TIME TRIED ON A STOVE -- ABOUT 30 YEARS AGO --
BUT IT WASN'T ME WHO HANDLED IT.
WHAT I KNOW ABOUT THIS ONE COMES FROM THE WOMAN WHO OWNED IT & WHERE SHE GOT IT --
SHE PURCHASED it in POLAND in the EARLY 70s FROM A RUSSIAN WOMAN WHO TRAVELLED BACK & FORTH --
a ONE-WOMAN IMPORT / EXPORT BUSINESS BRINGING GOODS FROM EACH COUNTRY to the OTHER &
SHE WAS TOLD IT WAS HAND-FASHIONED / HAMMERED AROUND TURN of the 20th CENTURY - Late 1800s to Early 1900s.
IT'S BEEN DISPLAYED OUT SINCE -- IN GOOD CONDITION at OVER 100 YEARS OLD --
GOOD BECAUSE SHINED UP IT WAS BEAUTIFUL WHEN I LAST SAW IT POLISHED BUT NOT WHAT I'D CALL MINT --
I COULD DO THE POLISHING WORK BUT I LEFT IT IN CASE IT'S FOR DISPLAY AS IS.
ALL THIS WAS TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT WITH PRICING -- IT WOULD BE ALOT MORE IF IT WAS A PERFECT SAMOVAR --
WHICH ONE DOESN'T NECESSARILY NEED IF IT'S FOR DISPLAY.
I Added Top & Bottom Photos of the Lid to Show the Brass Exposed & Not -- Both Not Polished.
You'll See the BATASHOV Cut-Out Pattern Repeated in the Cup at Top & Above the Footed Base.
Due to Brass Polish not Properly Wiped -- the Pattern is Easily Seen Carved into the Brass Handles.
OWN A PART OF RUSSIA'S CULTURE & HISTORY -- OLD RUSSIA OF THE CZARS THRU COMMUNISTS TIL NOW.
IN MANY PARTS OF RUSSIA & CERTAINLY FOR FESTIVE OCCASIONS -- THE SAMOVAR IS STILL IN USE TODAY.
All Wood Balls Are in Place But They Need a Bit of Old English Oil to Cheer Up the Wood -- I'll Do it Before Packing.
MEASURES -- 17-1/4" High x 13" Wide at end of Spicket to end of other x 8-3/4" Deep
Leg Base Foot to Foot = 5-1/2" Wide.
Note the 2 Small Dents at Back Bottom -- Happened During a Move.
Another SAMOVAR similar to this one has a dent in back also so I'll assume those dents are usual -- Brass is a soft metal.
NO MARKINGS OR STAMPS CAN MEAN IT WAS MADE BY ONE MAN on a PERSONAL LEVEL NOT SIGNED as a GIFT.
NOTE -- I don't do returns on Vintage or Antiques after I received items that were used & sent back.
I Pay Full Value Insurance on All Items Over $100.
IT'LL WEIGH ALOT MORE THAN WHAT I LISTED -- I'LL PAY THE DIFFERENCE.
If there's something I failed to mention please feel free to ask.
