You are bidding on a .....OLD (TOLD 1950's ERA) AND ORIGINAL OWNER THOUGHT "RARE" MID-CENTURY  TO FIND WESTERN MOTEL AND BAR ADVERTISING ASHTRAY...THIS ICONIC MERMAID BAR HAD VIEWING WINDOW TO THE POOL AND LIKE EVERYTHING ICONIC FROM OLD DAYS WAS RECENTLY DESTROYED once given out at the "EL RANCHO MOTEL & RESTAURANT - MERMAID ROOM - STATE HIGHWAY  82 (mission style motel pictorial) MILLBRAE, CALIF."  in the historic town of  MILLBRAE, CALIFORNIA

ORIGINAL OWNER THOUGHT THIS OLD "SQUARE AMBER GLASS" ASHTRAY WAS RARE TO FIND TODAY...EVIDENTLY THIS ICONIC "MISSION STYLE" MID-CENTURY MOTEL OPENED AROUND 1949 AND WAS A BIG DEAL IN MILLBRAE JUDGING BY GUESTS WHO STAYED THERE....JOAN CRAWFORD, RICHARD NIXON, BING CROSBY, LAUREN BACALL, LOU COSTELLO...ETC

THE "MERMAID ROOM" WAS A SUBTERRANEAN BAR WITH AN OLD SCHOOL LARGE VIEWING WINDOW INTO THE POOL WHERE DURING CERTAIN TIMES THE "MERMAIDS" aka "DOLPHINETTES" WOULD SWIM IN THE WATER FOR THE AMUSEMENT OF THE BAR PATRONS.......wow, that sounds really politically  incorrect

SADLY, I READ THIS ICONIC PROPERTY WAS DESTROYED RECENTLY.....like "hey, let's throw up a strip mall, or junk housing"....yeah, great

This came out of a lifetime collection of old advertising  ashtrays and bottles bought years ago.....I am not an expert on MILLBRAE ashtrays, but original owner thought this one was "rare" to find...it is "mid century" and has vibrant colors, in nice condition

I AM NOT AN EXPERT AT "GRADING" ASHTRAYS, THIS ONE SEEMS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, NO DAMAGE TO THE GLASS....GREAT CRISP GRAPHICS....I ONLY WIPED THE DUST OUT OF IT. (i take my photos in bright sunlight, so you might see a little reflectivity in my photos...this is not damage)

The historic town of Millbrae is located in San Mateo County...not far from Burlingame, San Bruno and Palo Alto California

MERMAID ROOM advertising ashtray is square shaped, with amber glass, size is 3 1/2" edge to edge x 3/4" tall, and no damage to glass… (please consider my gallery photos as a description of this lot)
