Luba Comb with Female Ancestor Figure — Democratic Republic of Congo, 20th Century

A striking carved wooden comb from the Luba people of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The comb measures 23.5 cm in length and 5 cm in width, and is in good condition consistent with its age.

The upper section features a stylised female ancestor figure — a hallmark of Luba artistic tradition, in which such figures represent lineage, spiritual authority, and feminine power. The carving is decorated with characteristic cross-hatched geometric motifs, a recurrent decorative feature in Luba material culture.

Acquired in the mid-1990s and attributed to the 20th century. A beautiful example of Central African decorative art, suitable for collectors of African ethnographic objects or tribal art enthusiasts.
