Saybrook At the Mouth of the Connecticut River: The First One Hundred Years, written by Gilman C. Gates, is a 246 page, 6 1/2 X 9 1/2 inch hardcover book published by the author. The copyright date is 1935, and this is a first edition: no other dates or printings are noted and the title page states "1935." The book was printed by The William H. Lee Company, Connecticut. The author has inscribed, signed and dated ("April 16, 1937") the first free endpaper.

The book is in very good condition, with brown pebbled boards and gilt titles.

Synopsis - The author provides a detailed history of Saybrook, with chapters on the English patents; the settlement; the Fenwicks; the fort; the town and the township. Illustrated with six full-page black and white photos and two double-page maps: one of the Saybrook town plat, and one of the new towns incorporated from the township..

Condition Details - The book has a square spine, a tight binding, and no marks, tears, turned down page corners or writing. The cover has light edgewear with corner bumps and minor fraying, no soil or stains. The gilt spine title is significantly faded/worn, the front cover title less so. The textblock edges, endpapers and text margins are lightly toned/yellowed. No unpleasant odors.
