Today for sale we have an antique wood candy pail from Walter T Hall and Co of Ottumwa, Iowa, in the Hall’s Confections line. The bentwood firkin style bucket keeps the original paper label with the Hall’s Confections script, the roses, the courting couple graphic, the Sweetmeat the Specialists slogan, and the Taste the Taste tagline, with a Nut Ruffles flavor slip still on the lower front. The lid stays with the pail under a wood cross brace, and a wire bail originally handle with a turned wood grip carries the top.The reverse holds a second piece of Iowa history, a stencil that reads Square Deal Gro, Mt Ayr Ia, showing the pail saw later use at a Mount Ayr grocery. That pairing of the Ottumwa candy maker on the front with the Mount Ayr grocery stencil on the back gives the piece strong Iowa advertising and country store appeal. Approx 13x13 inch
