This is a stone statue of a monk dating back to the Edo period.
It bears traces of carving that appear to date from the Genji era.
Genji is a Japanese era name; it follows the Bunkyū era and precedes the Keio era. It was the 226th era name (and the 242nd distinct one) since the Taika era, spanning the years 1864 to 1865.
It possesses the fine, authentic patina characteristic of an antique piece.
