This is a production used transparency proof from the pre-digital days of comic book production. These transparencies were used to confirm the art, colors, text, and marketing details prior to starting the print run for a comic book. They also allowed for quick proofing of different languages and could be updated with marketing details for different printings. These have now become obsolete after being used for a final time in the wave of TPB reprinting, making them available for collectors to own at a fraction of the price of the original art.

The 2 main companies that were responsible for this were “World Color Press” and “Spartan Printing Company”. These are incredible pieces of comic history and many have only one copy of each type of page (black/white, color composite, or separated colors for each page).

The small pieces are 8.5x11” and may have 2 pages. This allowed for text to be separated for editing, resizing, and changing to other languages without having to change the reference art page. The double pages and transparent nature allows for unique display options as well! Add backlights or layering to really make these stand out in your collection!
