The Senate committee held public hearings in Bend, Oregon;

Seattle, Washington; Salt Lake City, Utah; and Albuquerque, New Mexico.

 

S. 4028, was a bill introduced late in 1958 to establish a national wilderness preservation system.  

S. 4028 did not become law however, it served as the precursor

 to the Wilderness Act of 1964.
