I found this book to be quite a mystery. The remains of a library card pocket suggests the following history:
-A library purchased the book new in 1943.
-Children checked it out heavily.
-The original orange publisher’s binding wore out.
-The library sent it to a commercial bindery.
-The bindery put the original pages into a stronger green library binding.
This was extremely common with children’s books because libraries wanted them to survive decades of circulation.
First edition as stated on copyright page. Former library copy with later green library binding/rebinding.
Many library rebound books were discarded over the years, this is truly a piece of library history. This book does not have its original orange cover, ALTHOUGH it is a genuine 1943 first edition that appears to have spent much of its life VERY busy; likely in a school or public library.
Used but not abused, may have some cosmetic wear, please see pictures. Antique books may show signs of fading, foxing, spine breakage or have a bit of “old book smell.” Any physical defects will be exhibited within the pictures. Factors such as location, inflation, consistent policy changes made by USPS, UPS, & FedEx, as well as the possibility of input errors in weight/size; shipping prices can be unpredictable. I have this in mind and WILL SERIOUSLY CONSIDER ALL OFFERS!! Unless described differently, the posted pictures are NOT stock images and are NOT a copy from another listing. The posted video and/or pictures are of exactly what you will be receiving, no more, no less. The images are the best source of description. I typically do not clean antique or vintage items in an attempt to preserve them for the buyer. Thank you for your interest in Thrift Hoarder!
