JK Andrich was an early trader at Ft Wingate.  His record is unclear. Trading at Ft Wingate began with the Treaty of 1868 which allowed the Navajos to their homeland from their forced internment at Bosque Redondo. Because Fort Wingate sat just off the newly established reservation borders, it became a crucial, restriction-free hub for early traders.  Little specific trader information at Ft Wingate is available with the exception of Will Speilburg who was the first licensed trader at Ft Wingate in 1868.  There are no records of other traders until Paul Merrill (1919-2020) who was the trader for 48 years beginning 1946.  There is a gap in trader information between Speilburg in 1868 and Merrill in 1946 (following WWII) of about 80 years.  Merrill was active in the nearby Gallup community for so long as I can remember.
