Rare antique Japanese Sumida Gawa pottery vase decorated with birds and with a figure dressed in a kimono standing beside it. Base marked 隅田焼 治兵製 'Sumida ware, made by Jihei', referring to Jihei Kawamoto who inherited the Ryosai kiln after the death of the first generation Ryosai in 1899. Really lovely piece for a collection.

Small nibble on the back of man's blue obi. One shallow chip to the base, not visible when displayed.
