This is for an antique sterling silver Crimean Officer's whistle in sterling silver and dating to 1853. It has the original holder which is tapered to hold the whistle and this has two threaded bars that would have attached to a strap on the uniform. The whistle has a lever that releases it to be free from the holder. The holder is a decorative example with scroll work around the top and base and the whistle has a ball finial that holds the large ring for attaching to a chain. The silver holder carries a full set of hallmarks dating to Birmingham 1853 along with the initials J&C for Joseph Jennens & Co and you can see the same hallmarks on the whistle with a young Queen Victoria's head. It is in fabulous condition with no dents and no damage and together they measure 63mm (2.5") long by 20mm nearly 1" across at the wide end.
