The lower margin carries the full printed text — “Barn Swallow / Hirundo Americana / Male 1, Female 2 / From the Collection of the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company” along with the “Drawn from Nature by J.J. Audubon F.R.S. F.L.S.” and “Engraved, Printed & Coloured by R. Havell, 1833” credits, and the plate and issue numbers in the upper corners.

Northwestern Mutual assembled one of the most significant institutional Audubon collections in the country and produced large format prints.

The print is housed in a beautiful antique burl wood and ebonized frame with gilt liner, approximately 18.5” wide x 25” tall overall. The frame alone is a quality piece. The paper shows age toning, foxing, and some surface soiling consistent with age.
