Vintage 1989 Charvette Charvel Model 170 Electric Guitar Neon Orange HSS Japan

Up for sale is a wildly vibrant, 100% authentic 1989 Charvette by Charvel Model 170 electric guitar in an eye-catching, period-correct Neon Orange finish. This guitar is a true relic of the late-80s hair metal era, built at the legendary Chushin Gakki factory in Japan

Unlike standard superstrats, the Model 170 features a highly desirable 24.75" short-scale length, giving the guitar lower string tension for incredibly effortless string bending, vibrato, and speed techniques. This model features a fast-playing, bolt-on Maple neck loaded with a 24-fret Rosewood fingerboard. It comes equipped with a powerful HSS pickup configuration carrying original Charvel pickups, driven by a 5-way pickup selector for a huge palette of rock and metal tones. The hardware includes a factory Charvel-branded Floyd Rose licensed tremolo bridge system for superb tuning stability.

Brand: Charvette (A sub-brand produced by Charvel / Jackson)
Model: Charvette Model 170
Body Type: Classic Stratocaster / Superstrat shape
Body Material: Solid Hardwood / Basswood (Many early Japanese models used solid wood, while mid-tier production utilized layered wood)
Finish: Neon Orange / Fluorescent Salmon Red
Neck/Fretboard: Bolt-on Maple neck with a 24-fret Rosewood fingerboard and white dot inlays
Scale Length: 24.75" A highly desirable length, (the same as Gibson Les Pauls)
Hardware & Bridge: Chrome hardware, 6-in-line pointed headstock, Charvel-branded single-locking Floyd Rose style tremolo
Pickup Configuration: HSS (1 high-output Charvel humbucker in the bridge position, 2 stacked single-coil humbuckers in the middle and neck positions)
Controls: 1 Volume knob, 1 Tone knob, and a 5-way selector switch

Age: Manufactured in 1989
Origin: Built in Japan (MIJ) at the legendary Chushin Gakki factory. While the neck plate lists the Fort Worth, Texas P.O. Box address (Jackson/Charvel headquarters at the time), early 9x-series serial numbers paired with closer-spaced 12th-fret neck dots verify its elite early Japanese manufacture before production lines shifted entirely to Korea
Line History: The Charvette line was introduced in late 1989 to serve as a entry-level doorway into the prominent 80s "hair metal" shredder scene. The Model 170 was favored by players seeking the blazing fast feel of a professional Charvel neck but with a shortened scale length to reduce string tension for effortless bending and tapping
Rarity: Moderate to High. While Charvettes in standard black or deep red are relatively common, finding an original 1989 Japanese Model 170 in its iconic Neon Orange finish is rare, as bright neon configurations were produced for only a brief window.

Condition report:
Cosmetics
There is wear and tear to it, I have taken as many photos as I can to try and show all angles, please do zoom in on the photos to see the condition. There are scratches, scuffs, dents, dings, tarnishing, rusting and it needs a really good clean.
Electrics
The guitar works as is but the input, pots, selector switch could all do with a really good clean/tighten up, maybe some servisol would be a good start as everything crackles and is intermittent, when switching positions with the selector switch I had to hold in a certain place or push a certain way for it to work, I think it's full of dust and grime from years of display and storage. I would advise a thorough setup for the guitar to get it back up and running properly. The action needs adjusting, it needs a new set of strings, the neck may need adjusting, it just needs some general tlc to get it back up to speed again. Please be aware of this before you buy

Unlike the common, mass-produced Korean Charvettes or the lower-tier Model 250s (which were built with heavy laminate plywood bodies), this early 1989 Model 170 is a highly desirable, solid-wood instrument crafted at the legendary Chushin Gakki factory in Japan. Combined with a premium 24-fret neck layout, a factory-licensed Floyd Rose double-locking tremolo, and its incredibly rare, period-correct Neon Orange finish, this is an authentic 80s shredder icon that stands far above standard models.
