This is a rare collector’s item from the 1970s when Air India distributed commemorative souvenir items—such as lapel pins - to inaugural guests during the introduction of their first Boeing 747 "Jumbo Jet" service in April and May 1971.
This Air India lapel pin - labeled “ INAUGURAL GUEST - AIR-INDIA 747 “ - is 1 inch tall and .75 inches wide, with a pin clasp on the back (pictured).
The new "Queen of the Skies" era officially kicked off on April 20, 1971, when Air India inaugurated its jumbo jet service. This launch introduced the iconic "Your Palace in the Sky" theme, complete with distinctive Rajasthani arches painted around the cabin windows.
To celebrate these landmark inaugural flights, the airline gifted passengers exclusive memorabilia. One of the most notable collector pieces from these early 747 inaugural flights were Commemorative Souvenir Pins: Branded lapel pins featuring the famous Air India Centaur logo and the "Maharajah" mascot.
