Matchbox Voltron I Mini Vehicle Team 15 Vehicles in 1 Boxed Complete 1980's

Unsure if the items have been played with but saying used. They may show signs of age related wear and tear such as marks, scrapes, scuffs etc and general age related wear but nothing major stands out and nothing I can really pinpoint. The box shows signs of wear and tear such as marks, scrapes, scuffs, creasing, some tears/rips etc but does still display very well. The acetate window does have some rips, creases and has come loose in places. The poly tray also shows wear and has some chunks missing but is still very much intact and securely holds the items in place. Please study the photos to gauge condition for yourself, the photos form an important part of the description. 

Matchbox Voltron I Mini Vehicle Team 15 Vehicles in 1 Boxed Complete 1980's

Here I have for sale a rare, 100% complete vintage 1985 Matchbox Miniature Vehicle Team Voltron (Voltron I) set, fully intact with all 15 mini space vehicles, original inner styrofoam tray, and decorative outer retail box

In 1984, Matchbox licensed several separate Japanese anime series from Toei Animation to build the Voltron: Defender of the Universe franchise for western store shelves. This specific toy utilizes molds from the Japanese show Armored Fleet Dairugger XV, re-branded for western audiences as Vehicle Team Voltron (or Voltron I)

Unlike the famous Lion Voltron which only uses 5 pieces, this complex mechanical design is built from 15 distinct individual vehicles. They can be separated into three sub-squads (the Land Team, the Air Team, and the Sea Team) or stacked altogether to build the giant defender robot warrior

Prior to 1984, Matchbox was known almost exclusively for producing miniature diecast toy cars. Looking to compete with Hasbro's Transformers and Kenner's M.A.S.K. during the mid-80s robot craze, Matchbox took a massive financial gamble and bought the master toy manufacturing license for Voltron

While the Lion Force toys became a dominant pop-culture staple, the 15-vehicle cartoon series never achieved the same emotional connection with kids. Children found 15 different vehicles much harder to keep track of than 5 distinct space cats
As a result, Matchbox manufactured significantly fewer quantities of the Voltron I Miniature Vehicle Set compared to the Lion sets, making complete, original boxed versions like this an incredibly tough and highly prized find for modern toy collectors

Please do look at the photos to see the condition of the box and acetate window, photo's 7 and 11 shows box damage (you can see the bottom flap is hanging on in one corner)

When I slid the poly tray out the acetate window did fall, so the glue has dried and buyer may wish to re-glue

It would make a brilliant addition to collection or a perfect start to one
