Originally published in 1896. This has different date of entry on back of title page "190?" last number missing. Charts towards end show some 1910 census results so presumably this was issued in 1910 or shortly thereafter. First 176 pages are on the accomplishments of Blacks with the last chapter being on the bravery of Black troops in the Spanish-American War. The first section is heavily illustrated with famous Blacks. Then numbering begins again at 17 & runs to 720. This section includes rules of etiquette for all occasions, Courtship, Marriage & Domestic Life, Religious Department, How to be healthy & strong, business rules & forms, Manual of practical suggestions & useful information for the home & school, poetry from the world's best authors & Bible stories for the young-with 4 full page color plates. Interestingly anyone pictured after the first section is white. Still this is "A Manual of Self-Improvement For the Colored Race". Have been unable to find this later edition any place & the 1896 edition is also incredibly hard to find in an original copy.
