Nikon Ai NIKKOR 85mm f/2 MF Lens
Made in/ Used in/ Shipping from Japan

The Nikon Ai NIKKOR 85mm f/2 is a classic short telephoto prime from Nikon’s manual-focus era, prized for its balance of optical performance, compact size, and distinctive rendering. Introduced in the late 1970s as a more practical alternative to faster 85mm lenses, it quickly became a popular choice for photographers seeking both quality and portability.

Optically, the lens is known for its excellent sharpness when stopped down and pleasing, soft rendering at wider apertures, giving it a versatile character suited to portraiture and general telephoto work. The f/2 aperture produces smooth, natural background blur, making subject separation easy and visually appealing.

Compared to larger and more expensive 85mm options, it offers a more compact and lightweight design without sacrificing core image quality, making it especially attractive for everyday use and travel. With its solid all-metal construction and precise manual focus feel, the Ai 85mm f/2 remains a highly regarded vintage lens—valued not only for its performance, but for its classic Nikon rendering and usability.
