The perforated surface allows airflow and smoke circulation, while the welded raised rails underneath lift food or cookware above the burner or coals for indirect grilling.  Integrated side handles are clearly stamped "HOT", reinforcing its intended high-heat grilling use.  

Ideal for vegetables, fish, smaller foods, slow cooking, or use a grill buffer plate on gas or charcoal grills.  Also suitable for camp grills and fire pit cooking setups.
