1989 BMW E30 2 Door 320i se Auto Project

Before my ownership the car had been laid up in a garage for a good while, the previous owner to me knew the car well and negotiated the purchase as part payment for house renovation work. However, he completely underestimated the cost and the work that is involved to recommission a laid-up car and contacted me after a month.

My reason for selling, I won’t complete the car this summer for personal reasons.

Brief details of the work completed

All the consumable parts were removed and replaced with new or reconditioned with a few improvements where needed to update the engineering of the car.

Front End

·         New Front tubes

·         New wheel bearings

·         New Sport damper inserts

·         New Uprated lowered springs

·         Reconditioned wishbones, new ball joints

·         New drop links and new ARB’s including new brackets

·         Reconditioned lollipops with poly bushes

·         New vented discs

·         Reconditioned ATE brake callipers but new Girling units are here they just need carriers

·         Repaired brake lines with copper, new clips and unions

·         New dust shields

·         New brake flexi’s

·         Reconditioned brake master cylinder

Engine

·         Cylinder Head cleaned and decoked

·         New timing belt

·         New water pump

·         New gaskets

·         Rockercover re-painted

·         New plugs and leads, cap and rotor arm

·         Full service completed including belts

·         Cross member replaced with a good S/H unit.

 

 

Rear End

·         New Sport shocks

·         New top mounts

·         New Coil over adjustable springs

·         New brake drums

·         New cylinders and shoes

·         New hand brake cables

·         New copper brake lines and flexi’s including spring clips.

Bodywork

·         Front wings removed and the sill ends repaired

·         Wing bottoms cut off and repaired with OE Panels

·         Rear panel lower half cut out and replaced with new

·         Sunroof drains extended out of the sills and wing bottoms my own modification

·         Rear panel and lower panels, door bottoms and wing bottoms repainted

·         Cleaned and treated with Eastwood rubberised coating, Dynax S50 and Lanoguard

·         New exhaust hangers

·         Replacement sunroof panel and roof painted to match

·         Reconditioned sunroof motor

·         New IS front spoiler

Interior

·         New speakers

·         Drivers seat is worn and torn but replacements included

·         Original Panasonic pull out radio

·         Original fitment Racal telephone

Others

·         14” Basket weave alloys reconditioned and new centre caps

·         New tyres

·         New fog lamps

·         All other parts to finish are present.

Bad Bits

1.      The main reason for my decision to sell is the paint work that I had done. I took the car to a reputable Bodyshop, but I think the local drunk painted the car.

The sunroof panel was painted off the car and that’s the best bit and the roof was done at the same time to match up. However, the sunroof was not removed for painting, so the edge around it is terrible, there is also dust in the paint across the roof and some silicone spots.

The bottom of the driver’s door has a small sag not a run, the driver side passenger door has a small reaction by the rubber moulding, lastly the front lip of the rear arch has been missed, both sides!! The back panel however is very good job.

 

2.      The back panel I cut out and fitted to the car so I know it’s right but even though I went to great pains to get the correct panel for the angled slash cut original exhaust the numpties still sent the wrong one. So the exhaust exit is slightly off for aesthetics purposes. A new back box with straight pipes would fix that.

3.      The central locking needs looking at.

Ive probably missed out some things like new drumsticks on the rack and gators etc
