MODEL DESCRIPTION: The Victorinox Day Packer Swiss Army knife is a retired, 100mm / 4" Swiss Army knife with a single clip point blade. It was released circa 2012, then retired a couple years later.
For many decades, Victorinox offered a range of simple 100mm knives with different blade shapes. They were primarily designed for use in horticulture and agriculture, but also were popular for crafts work.
Unlike standard Swiss Army blades, the 100mm blade is sharpened on one side only. That makes it possible to run the flat side of the blade along a ruler or guide, and cut extremely accurately. It also lets you cut plants and not crush the stem on the flat side.
The most popular model by far was the Gardener, with a single flat sheepsfoot blade. There also was a Pruner and a two-blade Grafter sold via regular retail. Those came with red handles and aluminum liners.
Suppliers to florists and horticultural workers had a much wider range of knives. There were about 20 combinations of one to three blades, designed for grafting, budding, pruning and harvesting. Most models also came in a deluxe version with black handles and brass liners.
The 100mm horticultural series was gradually retired during the early 21st century. Probably to use up their stock of unused clip point blades, Victorinox released the Day Packer circa 2012. They came in a range of bright scale colors: light blue, light green, pink, purple and yellow, plus the usual red and black. There also was a Floral series in the same colors, but with a sheepsfoot blade (same as the Gardener model). As far as we can tell, the clip point blade was always combined with some other blade prior to 2012, so this version is unique!
The Victorinox Day Packer knife is 100mm (4") long, 23mm (.9") wide, and 12mm (1/2") thick. It weighs about 33.6 grams (1.2 oz), and includes the following tool:
• Clip Point Blade
