An attractive pressed copper relief plaque depicting the ancient Greek philosopher Socrates, after a design by the renowned Austrian sculptor and medallist Leonhard Posch (1750–1831).
The plaque features a finely modelled profile portrait of Socrates seated with a scroll or manuscript, executed in high-relief copper with excellent depth and texture. The warm aged copper patina gives the piece a distinctive character and makes it an ideal decorative item for a study, library, office, or classical-inspired interior.
A fascinating piece for collectors of philosophy, classical art, metalwork, and historical decorative objects.
