Vintage The Sun Soccercards 1978 1979 Complete Set 1000 Cards & 4 Albums, RARE

Items haven't been stuck in an album or anything and have been kept neatly in storage over the years but they are nearly 50 years old so may show signs of wear and tear such as small marks, scrapes, slight creasing, slight bending, browning to some white areas (from elastic bands being round them) but there is no major damage at all that I can see or pinpoint, none have been folded or anything like that just the usual wear expected wear and tear. The albums are in decent condition also but again will show the signs of ageing wear and tear such as marks, slight creasing, colour fading, slight browning maybe but they haven't been used and are generally in great condition for their age. Please study the photos to gauge condition for yourself, the photos form an important part of the description.

Vintage The Sun Soccercards 1978 1979 Complete Set 1000 Cards & 4 Albums, RARE

Up for auction is an exceptionally rare, complete piece of British football history. This is the massive 1978/1979 "Soccercards" collection issued by The Sun Newspaper

The Card Breakdown:
The information on the reverse of the cards was finalized in November 1978. The massive 1,000-card checklist is strictly categorized by numbers
1 – 200: International Stars (e.g., Trevor Anderson)
201 – 350: All-Time Greats (including icons like Johan Cruyff and Pelé)
351 – 546: Defenders (e.g., Paul Edwards)
547 – 742: Midfielders (e.g., Graham Rix)
743 – 938: Strikers (e.g., Andy Ritchie)
939 – 988: Flags of Soccer Nations
989 – 1,000: Major Football Trophies (ending on Card #1000, the World Cup Trophy)

This massive, promotion-driven set was issued by The Sun UK newspaper beginning in late 1978 and running into early 1979. It was their first major football card release since 1972.

Instead of live-action photographs, The Sun used full-colour painted illustrations of the players. This was a clever design tactic commonly used by publications to bypass paying hefty image-licensing fees directly to photographers or specific agencies

The Sun released four distinct albums (numbered Album No. 1 to No. 4). Interestingly, each individual album only contained about 150 unnumbered spaces. Because the albums weren't big enough to hold all 1,000 cards at once, collectors kept them as loose sets or customized their own books.

I have taken a photo of all 1000 cards in order (photos 15 to 24), please do zoom in and see the condition and the players, photo 14 shows what each card looks like from the back

Very collectable and nice to find in this condition, complete and in un-used condition, an absolute must for any football fan. They don't make them like this anymore so this is a real opportunity to own a high collectable piece of football history, some of the absolute greats in amongst these cards.
