Born in Saga Prefecture, Zeko (是好), whose real name was Nakamura Gudo (1900–1989), is celebrated as one of the most culturally significant and deeply influential titans in the history of Japanese Shohin bonsai. Originally placed in the elite Gakurin seminary of Daitoku-ji Temple in Kyoto to become a Buddhist monk, he chose a dramatic pivot at age 19 to become a professional actor. His famous stage and ceramic name, "Zeko," was derived directly from the profound Zen phrase "Nichi-nichi kore kojitsu" (Every day is a good day). He achieved nationwide fame as a masterful, iconic supporting actor in early Japanese cinema and television.

Zeko’s lifelong passion for Shohin bonsai was sparked by Sashichi Sugimoto, a theatrical set designer at Shochiku. Immersing himself deeply into the art, Zeko became a foundational pillar of the community, serving as a founding promoter of the Tokyo Amateur Shohin Bonsai Association in 1962, and later as the esteemed President of the All Japan Shohin Bonsai Association. Beyond cultivating elite trees, Zeko personally hand-crafted custom miniature pots and passionately commissioned works from renowned professional ceramicists like Teruko Tsuji and Takahiro Hane, successfully guiding the eyes of elite industrial potters toward the specialized world of bonsai vessel artistry. In his later years, he dedicated his immense creative energy to executing intricate, hand-painted illustrations (Ebachi) onto high-fired clay bodies formed by top-tier contemporary kilns.
