History and importance

Founded in 1890 by Marquis Luigi Monticelli Obizzi, Club Atletico Milanese is considered the first club in Italy exclusively dedicated to weightlifting (sollevamento pesi). At that time, it included what was called "heavy athletics", which also included wrestling and boxing.

Federal pioneer: The founder of the club also played a key role in the creation of the first Italian heavy athletics federation in 1902, which is now the FIJLKAM (Italian Federation of Judo, Wrestling, Karate and Martial Arts).

Famous athletes: Champions like Enrico Astolfo Scuri, one of the first great Italian weightlifters, were trained or competed within this club.
