This is a solution I have designed to overcome the limitations of the original KNEX 3D connectors. I have designed 4 unique, 3D printed Connector Pieces that can be assembled together to create nearly every type of 3D connector, most notably, the perfect corner for a cube (Assembled Vertex Connector). Additionally, these pieces require no glue and rely solely on their geometry to completely lock together, ensuring they cannot slide apart when in use. However, after a bit of practice they can be easily disassembled with the use of tweezers or a flathead screwdriver by lifting the locking tab, allowing for repeated use of the same parts for various connection types.
These pieces are designed to match the feel of original KNEX even though they are made of a different plastic (ABS plastic rather than POM). The connection points have been fine tuned to give that same, satisfying 'snap' when attaching official KNEX rods, and function the exact same as original KNEX connectors.

IMPORTANT DISTINCTION: Throughout this listing I use the terms 'Connector Piece' and 'Assembled Connector'. DO NOT CONFUSE THESE! Connector Pieces are individually 3D printed pieces combined together to create an Assembled Connector, requiring at least 3 pieces depending on the Assembled Connector variant.
USE CAUTION WHEN REMOVING CONNECTED RODS!! These parts are strong and last for many cycles before wearing out (Parts were tested through 100 connection cycles with negligible wear), but 3D printing is not as strong as injection molding, and ABS plastic is not as flexible as POM plastic; these pieces can break/bend when not used properly! Be sure to check out the videos included with your purchase that address this concern!
Be sure to watch all provided videos before attempting to disassemble and/or reassemble these parts to avoid damages. All purchases will include links to the disassembly and reassembly guide videos.
Connector Piece Naming Conventions:
- Connectors are named with the letter C (standing for 'Connector') followed by the number representing how many connection points the piece offers.
- For example, the C1 Connector offers 1 connection point, C2 offers 2 connection points, C4 offers 4, and C5 offers 5.
- Purchase of individual connector pieces is currently unavailable but may become available in the near future if demand allows.
Assembled Connector Naming Conventions:
- Assembled Connectors are named based on where they would be place when creating a cube.
- The Assembled Vertex Connector is used on the Vertex (corner) of a cube.
- The Assembled Edge Connector is used on the Edge of a cube.
- The Face is used on the Face of a cube, and the Centroid is used at the center of the cube.
Available Bundles: Assembled Connector Bundles that have C1 pieces include an extra C1 Connector in case of damages (Be extra careful with disassembly and reassembly). Bundles also include links to video guides which outline proper use, disassembly, and reassembly.
- Assembled Vertex Connectors (Bundle of 24) - Includes 24 Assembled Connectors of the Vertex variant. Total pieces are 72 with 72 C2 Connector Pieces.
- Assembled Edge Connectors (Bundle of 18) - Includes 18 Assembled Connectors of the Edge variant. Total pieces are 73 with 18+1 C1, 36 C2, and 18 C4 Connector Pieces.
- Assembled Face Connectors (Bundle of 12) - Includes 12 Assembled Connectors of the Face variant. Total pieces are 61 with 24+1 C1, 12 C2, 12 C4, and 12 C5 Connector Pieces.
- Assembled Centroid Connectors (Bundle of 8) - Includes 8 Assembled Connectors of the Centroid variant. Total pieces are 49 with 24+1 C1, and 24 C5 Connector Pieces.
- Complete Cube Connector Set (8 V, 12 E, 6 F, 1 C) - Includes 8 Assembled Connectors of the Vertex variant, 12 Assembled connectors of the Edge variant, 6 Assembled connectors of the Face variant, and 1 Assembled Connector of the Centroid variant. Total pieces are 109 with 27+1 C1, 54 C2, 18 C4, and 9 C5 Connector Pieces.
