Rare original C-2 Sweater from WWII. These sweaters are very delicate and many have disintegrated over the 80 years since WWII. They are rare because not that many have survived over the years. This one is in fantastic condition with just a few areas of small holes on the back of the shoulders and chest. They could be darned if desired. They are pictured in the listing photos. You can tell that the sweater was not worn much, if at all. There are no stains and even the inside is clean and pristine. There are no sweat stains on the neck line either which is a sure sign of light wear. The sweater is robust and can be worn if desired.
This sweater was made by one of the main 1940's Manufacturers Goodwear Knitting Mills. It still has the original tag. The zipper is a very rare Walds Kover Zip that has a patented covered teeth style of closure.
These sweaters were issued to aircrew during WWII to wear underneath flight jackets as an insulating base layer. They were designed for a tight fit due to the intended use. This sweater is marked as a size 40 but fits more like a size 36 or extra small.
