This handwritten letter on 7 tablet sheets from Helen Eadie Mann (1886-1975) of Woodbine, Harrison County, Iowa, to her friend Hilda Pauline Netsch (1885-1964) in Strathcona County, Alberta, Canada, was sent in August, 1907, as Helen was preparing to leave for school (probably a teacher's training program) in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Wide range of topics discussed, and included with the letter were two fabric samples for dresses that Helen was taking to school with her.
Helen was the daughter of James Eadie Mann, a Scots immigrant, and Aggie Morris Mann, and she became a rural school teacher, never married, and remained a resident of Harrison County, Iowa all her life.
Hilda was a Polish immigrant, returned to Harrison County after her stay in Canada, married Harry Vaughn in 1917, and remained there until her death in 1964.
Condition is used, "as is", with soiling and toning, edge and corner wear, folds, large tear on right side of envelope in front, fabric samples are wrinkled up.
