This vintage item is an antique wooden butter paddle, also known as a butter pat or
"Scotch hand".
Historically used to knead and shape butter, forcing out excess buttermilk and stiffening the butter.
Often repurposed today for rolling gnocchi to create traditional ridges.
Features a ribbed or fluted surface with a handle, typical of farmhouse kitchen tools from the 19th and early 20th centuries.
It does have a “hanging hole” and measures 10x3”.
Something about this butter paddle just caught my eye. It is brown and ribbed, and looks great on display
