This is a Bulova Excellence Collection watch featuring a design inspired by the Royal Oak.
Speaking of the Royal Oak, it is of course a product of Audemars Piguet, but it is also famous as one of the signature creations of the legendary watch designer Gérald Genta.

While this story may sound somewhat dubious, a well-known overseas watch enthusiast once claimed that Gérald Genta, who was allegedly working for Bulova in 1960, had submitted this design to the company before later presenting the Royal Oak design at Audemars Piguet. According to the story, the design was shelved for years before eventually being revived.

As for Bulova, the company also released watches such as the Super Seville and Oceanographer, both often regarded as homages or copies of Rolex designs, so this story is probably closer to an urban legend than a verified historical fact.

That said, there are certainly notable similarities to Gérald Genta’s design language, so it may not be entirely baseless. You can also see many common design elements shared with models such as the White Shadow by Universal Genève and the Constellation by Omega. One of the fascinating aspects of his work is how strongly his individual style appears depending on the model and production era.

Among Gérald Genta’s archived materials, there is said to be a design sketch commissioned by a certain royal family that bears an identical design to Seiko’s Acier line, which further fuels speculation that these stories may not be pure myth.

Even so, despite Gérald Genta having contributed to countless designs for brands including Corum, Omega, and Seiko, the true story behind this particular Bulova model remains shrouded in mystery.

Nevertheless, among overseas collectors, this “Bulova Royal Oak” is highly regarded. Its value as a collector’s item is considered extremely high, and surviving examples have become increasingly scarce, so please take this opportunity to acquire one.

When shaken, the seconds hand does move, but long-term operation has not been tested. Naturally, functionality and accuracy cannot be guaranteed, so please consider this watch as requiring an overhaul and/or suitable for parts restoration.

As this is a vintage item, non-original replacement parts may have been used during past repairs over the years. Therefore, originality of all components cannot be guaranteed.

Please refer to the photos carefully for the overall condition.
