It is important to know when a PCB is defective and when replacement with a dispenser PCB might work. Thorough diagnosis is required. The firmware on the PCB stores "adaptive data" that is unique to each hard drive. This data includes information about the read/write heads, firmware version, bad sectors in the hard drive service area, and more. It is possible that with a completely defective hard drive, replacing the PCB will cause the hard drive to restart. However, it will likely start clicking or not allow access to the data area. In this case, for successful replacement, this unique firmware must be transferred from the original defective PCB to the donor PCB. This is done with special tools or by manually transferring the firmware. It should also be noted that sometimes not only is the PCB defective, but the electronics of the hard drive are damaged as well. In this case, replacing the PCBs can even destroy the dispenser PCB.
