9 Piece Delft Style Sand Casting Bundle for Casting Gold Silver Bronze Aluminium

The bundle contains all the items required for small scale metal casting (jewellery or model making) using the Delft technique, you just need to add metal and heat.

The bundle contains:

The two part 60mm Aluminium Delft style interlocking casting ring is made from aluminium. It has a large side entry hole to allow vertical or horizontal casting. It allows the easy duplication of wax, metal, plastic or wooden patterns. The interlocking section are precision made to ensure an accurate fit and there is a small hole within interlocking section to allow accurate alignment of the under and lower sections.
The internal casting void has a diameter of 63mm and the height is 66mm. Casting ring walls are 4.5mm thick

Petrobond Sand is a high quality oil mix bonded sand suitable for non ferrous metals, including gold, silver, aluminium,  bronze silicon bronze, manganese bronze, and brass and copper based alloys. The sand produces a fine surface finish and produces comparable results to delft clay, using the same techniques and tools. It can also be used as an alternative to green sand for larger castings and produces near die cast quality casting. The sand can be reused multiple times. The casting sand is supplied in a sealed plastic bag.

The Crucible Holder is 300mm long and can be adjusted for various sizes of Ceramic Crucible/ Melting Dish.  Allowing the Ceramic Crucible/ Melting Dish to be securely held when melting and pouring the metal into the mould, the handle reduces heat transfer,

The 53mm (2 inch) Ceramic Crucibles/ Melting Dishes can be used with all types of precious and non-precious metal, including Gold, Silver, Platinum, Copper, Brass, Aluminium, Pewter, Bronze and Tin.

The brass mandrel is used to form the passage within the sand mould that the molten metal will pass through. The Mandrel is length is 50 mm Max diameter 14 mm and 2.95 mm shank.

The Calcium Carbonate Powder Parting Powder prevents prevents the casting sand sticking to the pattern (object being cast) and allows the pattern to be more easily removed from the sand as the mould is made. Also used to ensure that 2 halves of the mould are easily parted.  It can be applied using either a fine brush or sprinkled using a finely woven dusting bag (as supplied with the kit). Care should be taken not to use too much in corners and on fine patterns as detail can be lost.

The dust bag is made from finely woven material and has built in draw string to keep the parting powder in, measuring 150mm x 100mm.The dusting bag should be part filled and the draw string tied. It is then shaken over and  around the pattern and over any surface that easy separation is required from. A fine layer of dust will be deposited over all surfaces. Be careful not to use too much in corners and on fine patterns as detail can be lost.

Sodium Carbonate (Also known as soda ash) is used as a flux in jewellery and model casting. It helps to remove impurities from the metal, prevents oxidation during the heating process, and improves the flow of molten metal. The Sodium Carbonate is provided in powdered form and should be added sparingly to and thoroughly mixed with the molten metal. Sodium Carbonate 99.5% Pure Technical Grade Powder, produced from Natural Trona.

The carbon (graphite) stirring rod for use when melting metals (gold, silver bronze copper & aluminium) for casting. The rods will help to remove impurities from the molten metal during the stirring process. The rods are made from high density graphite and are 150mm long x 12mm diameter. The rods are brittle and care should be taken when using them. The rod should not be used with platinum as this will contaminate the molten platinum.

PLEASE NOTE: THE CERAMIC CRUCIBLE SHOULD BE PRE-HEATED AND GLAZED WITH BORAX TO PROLONG THE LIFE OF THE ITEM.

ALWAYS USE APPROPRIATE SAFETY PROTECTION WHEN HANDLING MOLTEN METAL!
