Handwoven Gabbeh Rug – Entryway Size

A Gabbeh (Gabbeh rug) woven by the Qashqai, a Turkic nomadic people living at the foothills of Iran’s Zagros Mountains.
Their rugs, created while living on rugged, desert-like land, are vividly colorful.
The motifs that appear in Gabbeh—sheep and goats, beautiful nature, and other scenes—are everyday sights from nomadic life.
Because each piece is woven with the weaver’s free sensibility, Gabbeh rugs feel warm and comforting, and simply looking at them can be soothing.

Thick wool yarn dyed with natural dyes is knotted and cut, knot by knot, repeatedly. Compared with ordinary carpets, the pile is trimmed longer, resulting in a thick, plush rug.
Made from 100% wool, it has excellent heat retention and moisture absorption, so it feels cool and smooth in summer and warmly insulating in winter—suitable for use all year round.

Ideal not only as an entryway mat, but also for use at the feet of a chair or sofa, or beside the bed—an easy-to-use size. Its thickness also gives it a cushioned, springy feel.
Both ends are deliberately finished without fringe; they are carefully folded in and overcast-stitched, so fringe won’t get caught in the vacuum cleaner, making it easy to clean.

■ Size: approx. 89 cm × 59 cm
■ Material: 100% wool
■ Country of origin: Iran (Qashqai tribe)

[How to Care for a Gabbeh]
For everyday care, vacuuming is sufficient.
If stains or dirt concern you, apply a wool detergent or shampoo to a cloth, wipe along the direction of the pile, then wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue, and allow it to dry completely. (Do not use bleach or fabric softener.)
It is also recommended to hang it out on a clothesline from time to time to shake off dust and let it air out.

[About the Backside Edge Binding]
Some Gabbeh rugs have a strip of synthetic leather tape sewn onto the backside edge on the non-fringed end; this is attached to help prevent wear at the edge and to reduce initial curling/warping.
Some rugs may not have this tape originally, may have loose stitching, or the tape may be cut partway. Because it is only an auxiliary reinforcement, this is not considered a defect. Thank you for your understanding.
