Katsushika Hokusai was active in many fields, including actor portraits and illustrations for reading material. He also studied a wide range of Chinese and Western painting techniques, and his landscape paintings, which made full use of shading and perspective, eventually reached the pinnacle of his masterpiece, "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji," including his masterpiece, "Fine Wind, Clear Morning" (Red Fuji). Hokusai's work had a major influence on Western painters, and he remains one of the most famous Japanese painters in the world.
